Instructor Development Programme - IDP

The new look IDP programme kicked off in December 2008, with 5 candidates taking part. The IDP is open to all students of UK Martial Arts and runs alongside their training in any of our styles. The IDP is not open to outside instructors or students.

The objective of the IDP is to train willing candidates to become the best instructors in their fields. Whether they choose to teach as a profession or an interest, UKMA is committed to producing highly motivated, qualified, exceptional teachers that will continue to promote and develop our “Tradition of Excellence” and provide the very best training for our students.

When our Chief Instructor Christopher Allen set up his first school, none of this support was available and because of his commitment to professional standards, Chris educated himself in the many aspects of both martial art training and teacher training. "I really wanted to give something back, to give genuine support and education to my students so that they may learn both how to teach and in turn further develop themselves. Training to be an instructor can be very tough, not physically but mentally and emotionally; it takes a lot to get up there and lead a class".

If you would like to join the IDP you will need to be a UKMA student, and be able to commit to monthly training sessions at our Tring HQ. To request an application form please contact the office on 0845 094 8805, subject to your application being successful, you will be asked to take part in a telephone or face to face interview with Chris.

"I was asked recently why people had to complete an application form and an interview, well its simply really, we want people with a passion for teaching or at least a genuine interest. We give our candidates alot of resources, support and opportunity to practice teaching and we only want the best people representing UKMA", commented Chris.
